Fragmented landscape generator (flsgen): A neutral landscape generator with control of landscape structure and fragmentation indices

چکیده
Neutral landscape models have many applications in ecology, such as supporting spatially explicit simulations, developing and evaluating indices. However, current approaches provide few options to produce large landscapes with controlled composition fragmentation We introduce flsgen (Fragmented Landscape Generator), a new neutral generator that addresses this limitation by providing high level of control over 14 The main novelty is the decomposition generation into two steps: solving constraint satisfaction problem raster stochastic algorithm. latter relies on continuous environmental gradient influences landscape's spatial configuration. can generate fine-grained artificial small amounts time, which makes it suited series systematically. demonstrate features through three illustrative use cases. practical efficient tool expands possibilities widens their potential applications. To facilitate its uptake, available free open-source software Java API, command-line interface or an R package.

MULTILAND: a neutral landscape generator designed for theoretical studies
The main goal of Multiland is to generate neutral landscapes made of several types of regions, with an exact control of the proportions occupied by each type of region (see Gaucherel et al., 2014, for a review of current landscape modelling approaches). An important feature of the software is that it allows a control of the landscape fragmentation. It is intended to theoretical studies on the e...
متن کاملLandscape fragmentation and Ebola outbreaks
The 2014 Ebola outbreak started in early-March, Guinea (Baize et al. 2014). Following, the outbreak spread into Liberia in March, Sierra Leone in May and Nigeria in July. Today every city in the affected regions embedded in the West Africa is at risk (Pigott et al. 2014). Hypotheses have been raised about possible mechanisms that made dynamics of Ebola transmission exacerbated (Bausch & Schwarz...
متن کاملHabitat fragmentation and landscape change
Broad-scale destruction and fragmentation of native vegetation is a highly visible result of human land-use throughout the world (Chapter 4). From the Atlantic Forests of South America to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, and in many other regions on Earth, much of the original vegetation now remains only as fragments amidst expanses of land committed to feeding and housing human beings. ...
متن کاملHow does landscape structure influence landscape connectivity?
We investigated the impact of landscape structure on landscape connectivity using a combination of simulation and empirical experiments. In a previous study we documented the movement behaviour of a specialized goldenrod beetle (Trirhabda borealis Blake) in three kinds of patches: habitat (goldenrod) patches and two types of matrix patch (cut vegetation and cut vegetation containing camouflage ...
